Renovation Project Continues with a Productive Work Day

WorkDay4_1Twenty men and youth of the church arrived early Saturday morning, July 10, for a work day to continue the transformation in the youth and children’s church area to create more classroom and fellowship space.

One of the last remnants of the 18-hole miniature golf course, a heavy concrete wall, was torn down with a lot of hard work and sweat. It didn’t come down “easy” like the Walls of Jericho, but the wall finally gave way to the relentless pounding of sledge hammers, pry bars, wire cutters and human horsepower.WorkDay3_1

The camaraderie and unity among the men and youth were evident as everyone took turns swinging the 35-pound sledge hammer, its 16-pound little brother, a couple of other smaller hammers, scooping up debris, running wheel barrels out onto the trailer and prying apart the inner wood from the concrete and styrofoam. One load was carried to the city dump, and the trailer was filled up again after closing time, and more debris remained on the floor.

WorkDay7_1“We had more trash than we had time to take out,” Pastor Ben remarked Sunday morning as he encouraged the congregation to go back and take a look at the progress made.

As the sign at the lunch counter says, “Please pardon our progress,” as the transformation comes about slowly but surely. Another work day will be announced in the coming weeks. Come be a part of the Lord’s work as River of Life continues to grow!
